Frequently Asked Questions
We believe anyone can and everyone should make a Legacy Video™. Whether or not you are a young family facing the loss of a parent due to terminal illness who is already being served by Inheritance of Hope, you can (and should!) pursue this offering.
If you do not have a diagnosis, you can make a Legacy Video™ to have a snapshot into what your life looks like at the moment — a time capsule to look back on. If you do have a diagnosis, this is a perfect opportunity to gift your loved ones something that captures your voice, stories, mannerisms, and personality!
No matter what your story is, sign up to create a Legacy Video™ today.
Once you select the date and time that you will record your video, complete the registration form.
Your Legacy Video™ coach will reach out to you and provide further encouragement and instructions.
During the call, your coach will walk you through the process, recording your stories to turn into an edited final video. You can follow specific question prompts or choose to tell stories without utilizing the coach’s prompts.
You will receive the password-protected link and password to your private Legacy Video™ to share with loved ones.
The costs of Legacy Videos™ are covered by generous donors, so there is no cost for you to participate.
Yes! Feel free to make several, whether you create a video specifically for each person in your family or for specific events (the “Open when you graduate high school” or “Watch this video on your wedding day” idea). Start with scheduling your first call, and your coach can help walk you through next steps.
When you schedule a time with one of our coaches, you will record the actual Legacy Video™ during that time. However, we always plan enough time during that call so the coach can spend the first 15 minutes or so walking you through everything. They will get to hear what you’re wanting to get out of the video, the direction you’d like to take it, etc. as well as offering their expertise if you’d like their insight. You can follow specific question prompts or choose to tell stories the whole time without any prompts from the coach. Once you feel comfortable, the coach will turn off their camera and record the call.
These videos can be anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour. It just depends on what you would like to share in your video. We’ve had clients answer question prompts, share stories and talk the whole time without any prompts, read their child’s favorite bedtime story, sing their child’s favorite song, etc. Our coaches are there to craft the video that you are envisioning. They can offer recommendations and answer questions through every step of the process
Our coaches are there to offer recommendations and answer questions through every step of the process. Once you register online, you will receive a personalized email from your coach with more information as well as a two page document with questions prompts. You can pick out questions that you’d like to answer in advance, ask your coach to just ask you questions during your call for you to answer, or share stories and talk the whole time without prompts from your coach. It’s up to you! The goal is not perfection. It’s to capture your personality and stories on camera. Believe us, your loved ones just want the authentic version of you, so whatever you record with your coach is going to be worthwhile!
Once the video is completed, your coach will email you with the link and password so that you always have a digital copy to access. You will also receive a postcard in the mail with the link/password and space on the back to write a handwritten note so that you can also have a physical copy of this gift. You can request as many postcards with your Legacy Video™ information as you’d like.
Our trained coaches handle all of the logistics, from the first introduction email to creating a completely edited final product that’s securely backed up and password-protected. They are there as a resource to provide suggestions, give question prompts, and create a safe and comfortable environment as people share their stories. All you have to do is have a computer or phone with the ability to click the Zoom link and join the call with your coach!
Because all of our videos are password-protected, you determine who has access to your video(s). The coach you work with will edit the video and upload it to our cloud-based storage platform so that you always have digital access to it. Legacy Videos™ will never use your videos for any reason besides storing it for you and your loved ones to access.
No, everything is done over Zoom. You just pick a date/time that works best for you on our website and then join a Zoom call using the link that your coach emails you, so the flexibility of this resource makes it very accessible.
Still sign up! View it as a snapshot in time. Lots has likely changed in your life since you’ve made your last Legacy Video, so it’s always a good time to make another!
